Navigating Through Ancient History and Colorful Fishing Settlements

As we hug the coastline, the landscape unfolds like a living museum. We sail past the traditional “Syrmata” villages of Skinopi, Klima, and Areti, where the vibrant boat garages create a stunning rainbow against the rock.

This area is steeped in significance; it is the site where the world-renowned Venus de Milo was discovered and where the sacred Christian Catacombs lie.

You will also view the picturesque Fourkovouni from the deck. Throughout this part of the trip, we share the fascinating historical narrative of Ancient Milos, connecting the stunning visuals with the island’s rich cultural heritage.

Important Tour Information & Safety

Route Adjustments & Sea Conditions

Please note that the Kleftiko boat tour itinerary is subject to change based on sea conditions and the captain’s discretion. Our priority is to ensure you experience the most iconic spots of West Milos in a safe and comfortable manner. While we aim to visit every location mentioned, the final route is always determined by the day’s weather patterns to provide the best possible sailing experience.

Weather Contingency & Transfers

In the event of strong northern winds, we adjust our route to the sheltered south coast of the island. During these conditions, departures take place from the beach of Paleochori. This adjustment allows us to reach Kleftiko and the surrounding southern gems while staying protected from the waves. A complimentary round-trip shuttle service to and from Paleochori is included in your booking.

Safety & Age Recommendations

Safety is the top priority for the Horizon Sailing team. For safety reasons, our group tours are generally recommended for guests aged 5 and above. Our crew is fully trained to ensure all safety protocols are followed, and we provide all necessary equipment to make your journey to the pirate caves of Milos both adventurous and secure.

Nature’s Sculpted Masterpiece

The Industrial Grandeur of Cape Vani and its Volcanic Palette

Turning toward the northwestern edge of the island, our kleftiko boat tour encounters the imposing cliffs of Cape Vani. This site is a geological masterpiece, characterized by its dramatic, abandoned manganese mines that date back decades.

The contrast of the industrial ruins against the stark volcanic rocks—painted in shades of deep red, iron black, and ochre—creates a surreal atmosphere. It is one of the most photographed spots on the west coast, offering a raw look at how the island’s mineral wealth shaped its identity. The sheer scale of the cliffs here serves as a powerful introduction to the wilder side of Milos.

Kleftiko Boat Tour – Diving into the Turquoise Serenity of Kalogries Bay

Our first dedicated stop for swimming and snorkeling takes place at the pristine bay of Kalogries. This sheltered cove is famous for its shallow, turquoise floor and exceptional water clarity, making it feel like a natural swimming pool.

It is the perfect spot to cool off and test your snorkeling gear in calm conditions. The white sandy bottom reflects the sunlight, creating a tropical hue that is unique to this part of the island. Whether you choose to explore the seabed or simply relax in the refreshing water, Kalogries offers a moment of pure Mediterranean tranquility.

Discovering the Collapsed Cathedral of Sykia Cave

We then navigate toward the monumental Sykia Cave, a breathtaking stop during our kleftiko boat tour and the largest sea cavern on Milos. This natural wonder is unique due to its collapsed roof, which allows sunlight to pour into a hidden interior beach, illuminating the emerald waters below.

The cave is nestled within a dramatic volcanic crater, surrounded by dark basalt formations that highlight the island’s fiery origins. If the sea conditions allow, we take you inside this breathtaking cathedral of rock, where the combination of the open sky and the enclosed sea creates a truly ethereal experience that defines the beauty of the Cyclades.

The climax of our journey is the legendary Kleftiko, an ancient pirate stronghold and the centerpiece of our kleftiko boat tour. This complex of towering white limestone pillars, natural arches, and intricate sea tunnels is a paradise for underwater exploration.

The water here is incredibly transparent, allowing for unparalleled snorkeling through hidden corridors and ancient caves. We provide professional masks and flippers so you can fully immerse yourself in this white-rock labyrinth. Exploring the underwater passages of Kleftiko is an unforgettable adventure, marking the perfect finale before our scenic return voyage to Adamas.
